Lithium-ion polymer (LiPo) battery packs are the successors to the well-known lithium-ion (LiIon) battery packs. The fundamental advantage of LiPo batteries is undoubtedly the ratio of capacity to dimensions. They are very small and at the same time very energy-efficient, which makes it possible to select a suitable battery pack for practically any AEG replica. There is no memory effect. The batteries can be charged very often without being discharged first. Frequent charging is very advantageous for this type of battery.

You must remember to connect the LiPo battery not below 3V per cell and to discharge it not above 4.2V per cell to charge. Another advantage of the LiPo battery is its low self-discharge rate. An unused battery loses only 3 % to 5 % of its energy. If you store the battery for a longer period of time, it may discharge below the minimum value (3 V per cell) and thus cause irreversible chemical reactions, which can lead to a deterioration of the battery's properties, including permanent damage and, in extreme cases, spontaneous combustion. An unused LiPo battery should be charged to around 70 %.

If the LiPo batteries are used properly, the service life should be around 500 to 700 cycles. The operating temperature of LiPo batteries is very important. In contrast to conventional batteries, LiPo cells cope well with low temperatures. Nevertheless, they should be charged at room temperature. To keep the LiPo batteries in good shape, they should be balanced during the charging process using a service plug, which most LiPo batteries are equipped with (a good LiPo charger has an in-built balancer).
