Description

Telescope BK 705AZ2

A lightweight astronomical telescope designed for beginners observing the night sky, especially for children. It is a small, easy-to-use refractor with a diameter of 70 mm, which allows up to 100x magnification of the image (with additional lenses up to 140x). The device weighs only a few kilograms and can be easily transported from place to place even by very young observers. In contrast to other telescopes in this price range, the SkyWatcher 705AZ2 is characterised by relatively good equipment (Kellner objectives instead of cheaper Ramsden and Huygens objectives) and a fairly high-quality lens.

Optical system

The Sky-Watcher 705AZ2 is a short focal length achromatic two-lens refractor. The lens has a diameter of 70 mm and a focal length of 500 mm. It has a very good anti-reflection coating. With a telescope with this type of objective, you can track down the brightest nebulae, provided that the observations are made away from city lighting. This type of telescope allows a wide field of view, which makes it perfect for observing star clusters.

What will we see through this telescope?

This telescope allows observation of the moon, it also shows bright planets of the solar system in a simple way. Despite its modest size, the Sky-Watcher 705AZ2 shows very nicely the rings of Saturn, the shapes of the planetary discs and basic details such as the stripes in the atmosphere of Jupiter or the polar caps of Mars in times of good visibility of the red planet. Equipped with a solar filter with a single lens, the 705AZ2 telescope is an excellent instrument for observing the sun (for children only under adult supervision). Magnifications of 20x, 40x, 50x and 100x can be achieved with the set.

Eyepiece:

1.25″ eyepiece, rack and pinion, with a 90-degree mirror angle attachment. The telescope has a horizontally inverted image (mirror image), its vertical alignment is properly maintained. The focusers are compatible with most accessories currently available on the market.

Mounting:

The telescope is suspended on a very light azimuth AZ2 mount. This mount is similar in operation to a photo tripod.

The set includes:

The set includes two 10mm and 25mm Kellner lenses. The set also includes a 2x Barlow lens, with which you can achieve two upper magnifications. The telescope is equipped with a 1.25″ mirror angle cap and a 5×24 finder.

Observation possibilities

Solar system
- Sun: visible spots and granulation (observations only with the objective filter)
- Mercury: visible phase of the planet under favourable conditions
- Venus: visible phase
- Moon: Visible surface details larger than 4 km, mountains, craters and seas
- Mars: A slight polar cap may be visible at opposition
- Jupiter: two stripes on the surface of the planet, changes in the position of the Galilean moons
- Saturn: the planet's ring is visible and the brightest moon, Titan
- Uranus: shown as a star
- Neptune: shown as a star

The stars
- Separation of systems with a distance of more than 2″
- Stars not smaller than magnitude 11.8

Deep Sky Objects
- Open star clusters from the Messier catalogue
- Globular clusters appear as bright spots
- Nebulae that are visible at low magnification
- Galaxies that are visible as cloudy spots
